F series drilling pumps use rolling bearings, which are precision mechanical parts. In order to prolong the service life, the rolling bearings must be carefully maintained.
The main bearing is a spherical roller bearing. The pinion shaft bearing is a cylindrical rolling bearing. Cylindrical roller bearings are used at the eccentric with ribs on both sides to keep the connecting rod on the centerline. Crosshead pin bearings are double row cylindrical roller bearings. Bearings do not require special adjustment.
The outer and inner rings of all bearings have a very precise fit with the bore or shaft. The inner and outer rings of the bearing are installed in pairs, one by one, and marked with a pairing number. Therefore, when the bearing is installed again, the inner and outer rings must be correctly matched.
Replacement of faulty bearings is often necessary. Even if only one part fails, it should be replaced as a set (inner and outer rings, rollers and cages). The movement clearance of these bearings is very small. Defects such as excessive clearance, grooved or worn races, and pitting or spalling of parts indicate bearing failure and must be replaced as soon as possible.
All rolling bearings and journals are fitted by shrinking (refer to each assembly for the data on bearing fit). Damaged or worn bearings or races can be knocked off the shaft with copper rods and hammers, or by gas cutting. Remove, but be very careful not to damage the shaft. Assembled bearings are usually heated in an oil bath below 149°C (300°F). The oil and the oil tank must be clean. If the fire is directly heated from under the oil tank, the outer ring of the bearing should be padded when it is placed in the oil tank, and the bearing oil bath should not exceed three minutes.
Generally do not use flame to heat the bearing, except in special circumstances, when the flame must be used, it can only be operated by an experienced gas welder. The flame is at least 150mm (6″) away from the bearing, and a temperature measuring pen can be used to test. Do not put the bearing Overheating. After the bearing is overheated, tempering occurs, which makes the bearing soft.

After the bearing is shrink-fit onto the shaft, allow it to cool naturally in place. Do not use water or other liquids to cool hot bearings. Rapid cooling will cause "thermal cracking" of the inner and outer rings and rollers of the bearing and scrap it.
Do not hit the bearing directly with a steel hammer. If the bearing must be seated in place, tap lightly with a wooden hammer.
Usually, the journals and mounting holes are coated with lubricant before the bearing is installed. The best lubricant is white lead oil, which is an anti-adhesion oil.
After the bearing is unpacked and taken out of the box, prevent dust and foreign matter from entering the bearing. Anti-rust grease for packaging should be cleaned before assembly. The cleaning agent should use clean kerosene or other solvent.
